COLOUR RAIL
Locomotive: GWR ‘38XX’ ‘County’ 4-4-0
Gauge: ‘OO’
Proposed
by: Alan Gordon
What is it?
Designed by George Jackson Churchward, the GWR’s original class of ‘Counties’ (not to be confused with Hawksworth’s later 4-6-0s) first emerged from Swindon in 1904. Utilising standardised parts from Churchward’s famous ‘Star’ class, the ‘County’ 4-4-0s were built primarily for fast passenger work.
