● Last spotted at the Weston-super-Mare Speed Trials in 1973 and kept away from the public gaze since, BRM P139-01, inset right, was raced in six F1 GPs in 1969. Its finest moment was the US GP at Watkins Glen when it was piloted by JOHN SURTEES to third place. It’s now in WILLIAM I’ANSON’s Cotswolds showroom, £POA – and in the same condition as the day it was driven in ’73.
● In 1985, former F1 world champion ALAN JONES was lured out of retirement to join the Beatrice Food-backed Haas team. Its racing car, currently on sale with OLDTIMER AUSTRALIA in Brisbane, was the LOLA-HART THL1. It ran in six GPs in 1985 and ’86 but never reached the finish line. It’s still in fine fettle with a rebuilt Hart 415T engine and has raced in 26 events since 2006.
