PERHAPS one of the biggest mistakes people make about private education is that they cannot afford it and never even consider the idea. They couldn’t be more wrong. The golden rule is that it is never too early to start planning.
Good fi nancial advice, prudence, plus parents and grandparents working together over savings and any inheritance all make independent education achievable.
At least £349 million is given annually in fee assistance in the independent education sector in Scotland; with just under 27 per cent of all pupils receiving some form of assistance. To date, Scotland has treated private schools as charities in terms of business rates, and the schools return this in the form of pro bono work through bursaries and scholarships for pupils and allowing local communities to use their facilities.
