THE MacPherson Cup competition for North of Scotland secondary schools took place last week at Bught Park, Inverness. Three schools were in attendance – Lochaber, Glenurquhart and Kingussie, with Portree having pulled out of the competition due to a bug.
Teams played each other once with some very close results, no less in the Glenurquhart v Lochaber game which was goalless for the majority, Lochaber scoring in the final minute of play to take the win. This 1-0 win over the Glen saw them progress to the final to face a very strong Kingussie High team.
The final saw some excellent shinty being played by both teams. Kingussie proved too strong for Lochaber and in the end ran out comfortable winners, lifting the MacPherson Cup, which Lochaber had previously retained since 2001.
