ONE OF Fort William’s busiest youth hostels could be demolished and replaced with a state of the art facility.
An application was submitted to the Highland Council on June 8 to demolish the popular Glen Nevis youth hostel and build a new one on land south of the existing building. The site of the current building would be used for car parking.
Situated at the foot of Ben Nevis, the youth hostel has been hosting hill walkers and climbers for 83 years. But the Scottish Youth Hostel Association (SYHA) revealed plans to demolish the property, whose path leads directly to the Ben’s submit, after it was deemed no longer fit for purpose.
