A SMALL island in the Inner Hebrides is on track to have its first road built. Sanday, which is connected to Canna via a bridge, is campaigning to raise £31,428 to build a ‘life-changing’ road.
The Isle of Canna Community Development Trust has already accumulated £17,200 towards the costs from various organisations. And it has raised a further £5,090 through an online crowdfunding campaign.
‘Creating this track will be life-changing for residents of Sanday and vital to encourage new people to settle on the island,’ the crowdfunding page reads. ‘Canna and Sanday are two adjoining islands connected by a bridge that can take vehicles but there is no road on Sanday. The track will stretch from the Canna bridge to St Edwards Church, approximately 1.5 miles, and will use locally sourced materials.’
