The Challenge of the English Channel: A Spiritual Approach to the Mount Everest of Swimming
Adriano Passini
BOOK REVIEW
I approached this book with a certain degree of scepticism. You can’t, after all, meditate your way across the English Channel. There’s actually quite a lot of hard swimming involved. Was Adriano’s “spiritual approach” going to be a load of New Age mumbo jumbo? Was he going to claim you could avoid the hard work and training needed to cross to France by being a little more spiritual?
As it turns out, absolutely not.
Adriano is a follower of Sri Chimnoy, the Indian spiritual leader who advocated long distance running and swimming as a means to selftranscendence (ie, the overcoming of our individual limits) along with meditation and prayer as a path to God.
