Charlotte Webby retained her title in the New Zealand Ocean Swim Series for 2016/17 despite being pushed into second place in the final race of the series, the King of the Bays swim, held on Auckland’s North Shore on Saturday 8 April.
First woman across the line in the 2.8km swim was Emma Robinson, who represented New Zealand at the 2016 Olympics in the 800m freestyle. She finished second overall in a time of 35:58, with Webby 9 seconds behind in 36:07. Robinson’s win lifted her into second place overall in the series.
Matt Scott was the clear winner in the men’s race in a time of 35:16, more than a minute ahead of second place Brent Foster. Scott also collected the overall male series title.
