REFORM ROUND-UP
A FAILED Worcestershire Reform candidate is refusing to accept defeat, crowdfunding a £10,000 legal challenge to overturn the election result. Elizabeth Williams petitioned the high court after she and Green candidate Hannah Robson tied with 889 votes in a county council election in May. Williams lost after both names were placed in a ballot box and Robson’s was pulled out. Williams’ petition alleges the count was fraudulent, naming the winning candidate, returning officer, local police and council’s chief executive as respondents. Her claims against the police and council were struck out at a preliminary hearing, as only winning candidates and returning officers can be respondents. With a second hearing due, Williams’ crowdfunding supporters have coughed up £680 so far. Only £9,320 to go!
