IMAGE: FROM ‘MINDFUL THOUGHTS FOR SURFERS’ BY SAM BLEAKLEY
THE OCEAN IS A PLACE of fascination - and even more so for the surfers who brave its waves. The beautifully illustrated book Mindful Thoughts For Surfers by Sam Bleakley (The Ivy Press, £6.99) brings this feeling to the page. ‘Blue mindfulness may be dif erent to the mindfulness of inner contemplation,’ says Bleakley, ‘but surfing teaches that mindfulness is not inyou, but in the world of experience. It is a letting go of the desire to control, allowing the environment to caress and shape you. Wrapped in a cloak of water, surfing can take you out of your comfort zone, immersing you in a liquid habitat.’
