INSPIRED BY THE LIFE OF ARTIST MAUD LEWIS, Maudie, the 2016 biopic starring Sally Hawkins and Ethan Hawke, features a colourful glimpse into the world of Nova Scotian folk artist Maud Lewis. Although the film has been criticized for how it downplays the crippling effects that rheumatoid arthritis had on Lewis’s mobility and hand functions, Maudie did introduce new fans to the artist’s charming rainbow scenes of rural Nova Scotian life in the mid-20th century.
