Parramatta Light Rail update
Work continues to ready the 12-kilometre, 16-stop Stage 1 of Parramatta Light Rail for service testing in mid-2023. During November and December work focussed on installing the overhead wiring between Rosehill Gardens – a section runs along the former Carlingford heavy rail right of way, and which closed for conversion to light rail three years ago. Although work has been completed in ‘below rail’ infrastructure between Westmead and Carlingford, the November and December period saw the construction shift to the installation of tram stop structures and equipment along the route, with all stations due to be fitted out by January, and early December saw the arrival of the route’s first light railway vehicle, when new CAF Urbos 3 tram 2172 was delivered. Chris Walters reports.

David Campbell relates a story about a school excursion with a difference. Melbourne Grammar School is well known for the quality of its curriculum and high-performing students, and this extends to their musical department. A creative way of delivering band performances was developed during 2022, culminating in a tour around Victoria (and even quietly sneaking into southern New South Wales), using passenger trains to provide transport as well as accommodation over what became a ten-day, and over 3000-kilometres long, journey.
