Emma specialises in creating modern, easy-to-make projects that she sells as kits
Emma Bassey is the mastermind behind Stitching Me Softly, a beautifully modern crochet business featuring distinctive craft kits and chunky yarn, all with a fun and contemporary look. She runs her business from her home in Bristol – she and her three children moved back to the south west after living in London for a while. “After working for a short time in advertising sales, I looked for a career that was more family friendly,” Emma tells us. “I went back to working in retail for a while before retraining as a childminder. As my own children grew up, I wanted a new challenge, and some members of the local Etsy Team encouraged me to sell some of my crochet creations through the site.”
Emma first learned how to crochet while she was pregnant and fell in love with the ease of the craft. “Once you know the basic stitches, you can make pretty much anything you want,” she says. “You also don’t need to invest in a lot of equipment; all you need are a few hooks and some yarn to get going. I also find the repetitive movements of crochet can be quite calming and mindful.”
