Every Wednesday between April and September, come rain or shine, members of the Wapping Group of Artists meet to paint outdoors at locations in London and along the river Thames. The group was established in 1946, initially to record the busy life of London’s dockland, but the group now paints anywhere between Henley and the Thames estuary. ‘Almost incidentally,’ the ‘Wappers’ say, ‘they have recorded the changing face of London and the river Thames for over 60 years.’ The annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries, is a delightful exploration of London and its river – and the year’s weather – as experienced by this unique group of 25 artists, featuring over 120 works in various media. There will be an opportunity to meet some of the artists at the gallery on February 26 (5.30 to 8pm) when three members of the group will demonstrate how they paint the same subject in their own styles and media. No booking is necesasary and admission is free; www.wappinggroupofartists.co.uk
