Matt Garvey knew he had made the right decision to retire after 13 years in the Premiership when he watched Henry Arundell hare the length of the field in Toulon last weekend for the try of any season.
“I thought then that I was too old for this game,” said Garvey, who led Bath in the 2014 Premiership final at Twickenham. “The game is so different to when I started: props now look nothing like they did then. It is full of athletes who are freaks of nature. I preferred the game when it was slower!”
