GAME OF THE MONTH
WRC Generations
Generationsmight seem like an odd name, but it’s because this is developer Kylotonn’s last hurrah before the official licence switches to EA Sports. The philosophy, then, is to cram just about every car and special stage the team has ever produced into a single game, including eight full events that aren’t even on the 2022 calendar. Your next rally ending accident could well be colliding with the kitchen sink. The problem is, there’s not actually a great deal of new stuff. The 2022 hybrid formula adds a slight new wrinkle, but for most mortals good stage times are far more likely to come from keeping your eyes on the road than fiddling with engine maps. The physics model has been improved and there are a handful of refreshed Swedish stages, but while both additions are great, they aren’t worth the price of admission alone. The result is a game that is less a victory lap and more a greatest hits album. And sadly we’ve heard all the songs before.
