NEW SERIES WALLANDER
We just might have found the worst job in the world. An extra is lying face down in a pool of water in a muddy field outside Ystad in rural Sweden. She is playing a corpse and is about to be discovered by a depressive detective. Truly, this is the job from hell! It may seem gruesome, but this uncompromisingly sombre scene fits perfectly with the atmosphere of brooding malevolence that hangs over Wallander. The BBC1 drama returns this week for its fourth and, reportedly, final series, charting the woes of detective Kurt Wallander. Played with a magnificently morose countenance by Kenneth Branagh, the deeply sensitive Swede is affected by the victims he encounters. The suffering of every family destroyed by crime strikes him like a body blow.
