SOUTHWEST Londoner Anthony Topham caught the blues bug early, taking up the guitar in his teens after hearing Jimmy Reed, Big Bill Broonzy and Blind Boy Fuller. Teaming up with fellow art student Chris Dreja and drummer Jim McCarty, he formed Suburbiton R&B in early 1963. By May, the trio had been joined by local singer Keith Relf and bassist Paul Samwell-Smith.
