Dick Fosbury’s unique ‘flip-flop’ style of high jumping led to Olympic gold in 1968.

With this jump, Fosbury won the gold medal at the Mexico City Olympics, reaching a height of 7 feet 4 1/4 inches on October 23, 1968. His revolutionary style of jumping backwards, known as the “Fosbury Flop,” soon became the standard technique.
