Heather Kneale comes from a medical family, and her first career move was working as a registered respiratory therapist in a Shriners children’s hospital burn unit in Sacramento, California. There she contracted a bacterial infection that went straight to her lungs.

Before long, the asthmatic symptoms were so debilitating, she could barely work. But because she was pregnant at the time, doctors dismissed her symptoms as merely side effects of pregnancy hormones.
