Now in its fourth year, the Magic Oxygen Literary Prize is open for entries. The competition is in two categories: short stories and poetry. In each category there is a first prize of £1,000, second and third prizes of £300 and £100 and two highly commended prizes of £50. In addition, eco-publishers Magic Oxygen will plant a tree in Bora, Kenya, for each entry, and send the entrant the GPS coordinates of their tree. This is done through the new charity The Word Forest Organisation, which formed as a direct result of the Magic Oxygen Literary Prize.
The Magic Oxygen Literary Prize has an open theme and welcomes international entries. Send original, unpublished short stories up to 4,000 words, and poems up to fifty lines.
Enter online or by post. Entries should typed on single sides of A4 in 12 or 14pt Arial or Times New Roman. Type the title and word count in bold at the top of the story or poem. The writer’s name must not appear on the manuscript. Online entries should be doc, docx, odt or txt files with the title of the entry as the filename. Postal entrants, include a separate sheet with contact details and mark envelopes ‘MOLP’.
