This pretty quilt design is simpler than it looks – based around an easy-to-make rectangular patchwork, the real focus of this project is the giant embellished dandelion that takes pride of place on the quilt top.
1 First, decide how big you’d like your quilt to be – we wanted ours to fit across a double bed, so it needed to measure at least 150cm x 200cm. Each of the quilt squares is cut using a piece of A4 card (roughly 21cm x 30cm) as a template. Therefore, we need the quilt top to be 10 squares wide and six squares high. Lay out the fabrics and from each, cut 20 squares, using the A4 card as a template.
2 Lay the first row of 10 squares out, alternating the three patterns. Pin them together, rightsides facing, then machine stitch each square to the next, leaving a 1cm seam allowance. Open the squares out into the row and press the seams flat. Repeat to make six more rows, each time moving the pattern of prints one square along so that, when laid together, they create a diagonal pattern as pictured.
