SIXPAD
REVIEW
Review by Attitude’s Adam Duxbury
It’s difficult not to be sceptical when trying out a device that you strap on to your muscles then lie back and wait for rippling abs and bulging biceps to appear. Developed by a Japanese lifestyle brand, the Sixpad uses 20Hz of EMS (electronic muscle stimulation) to contract your muscles, just like exercising does. There’s an ab-focused bit and twin body devices that work arms, legs and waists. I try the Abs Fit first, attaching six gel pads to the device then slapping it on my stomach. There are 15 degrees of intensity. I opt for level six, thinking that will be ideal to ease me in. After a few warm-up flutters, my muscles are suddenly contracting like crazy and I start hitting the “minus” button until the intensity reduces. After the 23-minute programme finishes, my abs feel pleasantly achey. Trying the Body Fit on my biceps next gets even more dramatic results as my arms start involuntarily flexing, even on a low setting. Although you can wear these while at work or doing household chores, I wouldn’t recommend making an omelette with two of them on your arms. After using the full set daily for three weeks, I noticed better definition and my core in particular felt stronger, especially when I was deadlifting or squatting a heavy bar. Just don’t expect miracles if you’re not already eating healthily and working out regularly. From £109.99.
