I think it is safe to say that our society has become food obsessed. From social media accounts dedicated to uploading photos of incredible dishes, we are literally spoiled for choice when it comes to our next meal. I don’t know anyone that doesn’t appreciate a cracking dinner and fancy cocktail; however, I do know one thing that doesn’t like all these takeaways, brunches, lunches and restaurant banquets and that is my bank balance. Not to mention, regularly ordering takeaway food can be bad for the planet when you consider the energy and miles required to deliver it and the plastic packaging it’s often contained in.
Eating out, ordering in, wine tasting nights and brewery hops can undoubtedly add up to a hefty bill. If you are like me, worrying about the pennies and how your food impacts your ecological footprint, then you may feel that the first thing to take a hit will have to be your social life. It is a sad thought that we may have to turn down social events so we can pay for the boring stuff, however, what if I were you tell you that you could have great food, drinks and fun with friends for next to nothing?
