“This is Elizabeth David’s chip scoop. It was bought for me as a gift by friends who’d gone to an auction of her personal kitchen bits and pieces, and when they saw it they knew it was meant for me.
I love the fact that Elizabeth even had a chip scoop. I wonder what she must have scooped from and into it… Perhaps she’d been moonlighting at the local chippy? Having her scoop is a treat in the way that, if I were a football fan, I’d be thrilled to have Pele’s shirt. I used the scoop the first week I was given it but then decided it should be seen and not used, in case I washed off any of Elizabeth’s magic dust!”
