A couple of years before the pandemic hit, I called New York home. I’d moved to Manhattan on a whim after the sudden end of a long-term relationship, and it was in my new coordinates that I truly discovered the joy of anticipation for a night out. Chalk it up to being in a city as stimulating as NYC, the simple ritual of getting ready seemed uniquely exciting: the smudginess of a smoky eye, slipping into an LBD, and the infinite freedom of not having any firm plans (and a rather firm faith that the night ahead would be a good one).
