We’ll spend around 30 years of our lives trying to avoid pregnancy and, in that time, jobs, homes and partners will come and go. Yet most of us stick to the same contraception, largely oblivious to whether we’re really getting the best deal. (And when you consider that only around 55 per cent of pregnancies are planned, we’re probably not.) Chances are, science has moved on since you started your current contraceptive, but the research doesn’t seem to reach the people who need it, which could be why around 90 per cent of us are on the pill despite experts lauding the coil as a more effective option. You probably spend more time reading about the latest science-backed moisturisers. So why don’t we change our contraception more often?
