Tomato juice is the health-boosting beverage of choice for people at risk of cardiovascular disease, according to the findings of a new study from Japan. Nearly 500 people were provided with as much unsalted tomato juice as they wanted throughout a year. At the end of the study, a fifth of participants (those with untreated prehypertension or hypertension) saw their blood pressure drop significantly, while around a quarter of participants (those with high cholesterol) saw their LDL (bad) cholesterol levels fall. These benefits were seen in men and women and across age groups. Pass the Virgin Marys.
