NETWORK NEWS
Our friends at Network continue to put out the kind of stuff that we here at Infinity just love, and they have just announced five exciting new releases catering for all tastes, with top TV-tofilm comic adaptations, Whoops Apocalypse (1986) and Please Sir (1971), crisp comedy, The Sandwich Man (1966), and the lovably crazy monster movie, Konga (1961). There’s also a twist on traditional telly to celebrate the 50th anniversary (20th August 1972) of awardwinning, rural anthology, Country Matters (1972-1973).
Taking the films in turn, Whoops Apocalypse stars M*A*S*H’s Loretta Swit alongside comedy icon Peter Cook, Seinfeld’s Michael Richards and the immortal Rik Mayall in a riotous feature film version of one of television’s most outrageously controversial satires.
Please Sir! is the feature film version of one of television’s all-timegreat sitcoms, created by comedy giants John Esmonde and Bob Larbey and starring John Alderton as beleaguered Fenn Street teacher Bernard (Privet) Hedges.
Original Goon Michael Bentine co-writes and gives a memorable performance in The Sandwich Man, a gentle, whimsical comedy, while in the cult favourite B-movie Konga, Michael Gough turns in a memorably bonkers performance as a mad scientist who grows the title ape to giant size! This release also includes a limited edition booklet, written by Adrian Smith, Last but not least, Country Matters: The Complete Series gives nostalgia buffs the opportunity to catch up with one of the most memorable, starstudded series of the 1970s - ahighpoint for dramatic television (adapted from tales by A.E Coppard and H.E. Bates, two of the great masters of the short story). The story of people living in the countryside of the United Kingdom after World War I features the likes of Peter Firth, Ian McKellen, Michael Kitchen and Penelope Wilton and it’s out on a newly-remastered DVD to celebrate 50 years of the acclaimed series. All of the other films mentioned here have been remastered in high definition and are available on both Blu-ray and DVD.
