TO MAKE A PC FEEL FAST,
you need fast storage, and SSDs on the processor’s PCIe lanes are the way to go. PCIe 5.0 is rapidly replacing PCIe 4.0, with double the transfer rates. Asus has upgraded its Hyper M.2 x16 card to PCIe 5.0, bringing its top transfer speed to 512Gb/s (64GB/s). That figure is for four fast drives in a RAID 0 array. It’s a theoretical figure, and given that M.2 drives that fast haven’t been built yet, unachievable. The card has four M.2 slots, that can take 2242 to 22110 size cards. Cooling is provided by a full-cover heatsink with a fan, and power by a 6-pin PCIe connector. Some research is needed before you invest, as for full effect you’ll need 16 PCIe lanes spare, so check your motherboard and processor capabilities. The Hyper M.2 x16 Gen5 costs $80, and gives a relatively easy performance upgrade. –CL
