It is now a year since we launched Equally Well in the UK. Equally Well is a nationwide collaboration to stimulate and support action to improve the physical health of people living with a mental illness, with the ultimate aim of reducing the mortality gap with the rest of the population. It is based on a similar campaign that has been running for five years in New Zealand, and another which is now in place in Australia.
Equally Well began with three crucial principles. The first is that we all have an equal right to good health, yet for too long people with mental health conditions have had their physical health neglected and overlooked. Taking a rights-based approach to physical health support is at the heart of our approach.
