There has been a palpable sense of shock across Oban following the death of an elderly man in the Dunollie area of the town, allegedly after an altercation with a neighbour. That was compounded by the death from a heart attack of a second man in the area. People have commented on social media about how rare such incidents are and have voiced very clearly a sense of disbelief. Police have moved quickly to reassure local people that Oban remains a safe place to live and work, and that is a sentiment we would like to echo. This is a town with a strong sense of community and we are confident that people will pull together in this period of concern about public safety. The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the area and the sympathy of everyone at The Oban Times is extended to the families and friends of the men who have died.
