Trophy winners with Councillor Elaine Robertson, far left, who opened the show.
Prize-winning cabbages, home-made treats and rare white eggs were just some of the top entries at Avich and Kilchrenan Horticultural Show at the weekend. Chrissie Sugden won two trophies for best vegetable and best vegetable garden, while Cathy Trinder’s cottage garden in Dalavich won her a shiny silver award to take pride of place on her mantelpiece back home. Among other winners was Frank Bergius from Kilchrenan with his white eggs laid by his Black Leghorn hens – his trophy was an egg cup! An auction of produce helped raise funds to engrave winners’ names on their trophies and put on next year’s show. Councillor Elaine Robertson opened the show and praised volunteers’ hard work: ‘There’s a lot of hard work that goes into making these shows happen. Sadly, we are reading more and more about shows like this being cancelled due to lack of interest, which is such a shame because they are so important for the community. flank you to everyone who helped and put in entries to make sure this show went ahead,’ she said.
