Emma Bubberman is sounding out Taynuilt on starting up two new community choirs.
Panto producers in Taynuilt need helpers and actors - oh yes they do! Rehearsals for There Was An Old Woman start this month. Taynuilt and District Dramatic Society (TADDS) hopes to get a production team together as soon as possible. The panto will run for threedays starting on Thursday January 17 to pep up people’s spirits after Christmas. Lighting, costumes, props, make-up, music, choreography, set design and construction, sound, stage-hands and prompts are just some of the jobs up for grabs. Anyone wanting a stage part from leading roles to the chorus and dancers are also being invited to get in touch – the minimum age is seven. ‘We’ve had a reasonable response so far, but we still need more production crew and more actors of all ages – especially adults. Putting on a pantomime is great fun but is also a huge task because it has every element of the theatre you can image,’ said Carol Thomson in charge of the 2019 panto with friend Vivienne Price. The next show will mark three years since the last pantomime, usually it is every two years. ‘The village loves it and looks forward to it, but it’s also important to us as a dramatic society because it helps us get funding to take our plays to festivals,’ added Ms Thomson.
In March this year, TAADS Junior Section performed a play devised and written by its cast called My Space, Our Place, inspired by 2018 being the Year of the Young Person. Interested? Ms Bubberman is thinking of starting up two new community choirs without clashing with the already well-established Gaelic choir: ‘I am looking at a choir, performing mostly a range of chart music from the 1960s up to today’s hits. Depending on interest, I may also look to run a senior choir for those over 16 and a junior choir for those aged eight to 15,’ said Ms Bubberman who has a performing arts background.
