Trying to raise my children bilingually in Germany is like trying to put the water that has fallen over the Niagara Falls back up into the Niagara River using a tea cup. Labour intensive, challenging, and mostly hopeless.
After four years of babbling merrily away to my daughter in English as much as possible, she still appears to speak only German. She answers all my questions in German, talks to herself, and her brother in broken Bavarian and shrieks and giggles with her toys and friends in conversational Kraut.
