As vegans we help to spread the message of our lifestyle in many different ways. We lead by example with our compassionate consumer choices, we raise funds for animal rescue organisations, and we even take part in more direct actions and public outreach activities.
But, when it comes to financially supporting independent vegan business, I believe we could be putting in a bit more effort to help our cause. Let me strip it back a little — to begin with, starting a vegan business is daunting.
The challenges for an independent business owner obviously include the cost and financial risk associated, but people often have to give up regular pay cheques and a secure job in order to have the time to dedicate themselves to a vegan venture. That loss of job security, coupled with all those expenses, is a huge burden.
