I’ve come across beer made from surplus bread before; it’s usually on offer at one of The Felix Project parties (a food re-distribution group I volunteer for). Cool to see, and feels fitting being served at an event hosted by a food waste charity, but I can’t say that I’ve held it in mind long after I’ve necked the bottle!
I guess, I just don’t consider alcohol much when it comes to food waste. I mean, it’s always a result to pick up yellow stickered, reduced booze in the supermarket, but this is usually because the store is clearing a line, the packaging is damaged, or due to over ordering, not generally because of best before dates. Hence, I don’t tend to think of surplus alcohol as heading for landfill, or contributing to climate change, in the same way I would food.
