The Edinburgh based Scottish Arts Club has three competitions, a Short Story competition, the Isobel Lodge Award and an International Flash Fiction competition, all for writers over the age of eighteen on 1 September. The deadline for the first two is 31 March, and 30 April for the flash fiction.
The Short Story Competition is for stories of a maximum 1,500 words on any topic and is open to writers worldwide. There is a £1,200 prize pot on offer plus publication for all finalists. All entries should be written in English, formatted in 12pt font in a double spaced doc or pdf document with the title and page number in the header and the word total at the end of the story. The entry fee is £10 per entry.
The Isobel Lodge Award for New Scottish Writing is also for stories of a maximum 1,500 words on any topic. It has a first prize of £500 and is open to unpublished writers born in Scotland or who are living or studying in Scotland. Check the website for the full eligibility. There is an entry fee of £10 per story and if entering for the Award your story will automatically be considered for the Short Story Competition.
