My own personal journey to veganism began in 2012, and it was perhaps a slightly unusual one. Rather than dipping a toe in the water and easing myself in gently, I went from being an ardent meat eater to following a raw vegan lifestyle overnight.
While I now find a more traditional vegan diet better suited to my lifestyle, raw food still holds a very special place in my heart, so I’m excited to be able to celebrate vibrant, colourful and fresh raw food with you in this issue. From cheese and cheesecakes to rainbow-coloured salads and rolls (from p12), these wholesome recipes will have you glowing from the inside out.
One thing we often hear from our readers is that they don’t enjoy many of the current dairy-free offerings, such as cheese and butter, found in supermarkets. So this issue we show you how to make your own vegan essentials like crème fraiche (p43) and butter (p45) that are so tasty you’ll never want to go back to ready-made! We also reveal what foods to eat to give your skin a gorgeous glow (p56) this summer, and if you’re planning your summer holiday, be sure to check out our luxury vegan travel guide (p22) to help you discover the best spots around the globe for a spot of pampering – vegan style! If you’re a fan of the unique, then you need to add Portland to your ‘must-visit’ list right now. In this issue we take you on a tour around the city (p126) to discover the best places to eat, stay and visit – vegan doughnut anyone? Enjoy the issue and I’ll see you next month!
