For a little while, Kluivert was mainly known for two things: being the son of the legendary Patrick (and that is going to stay with him forever) and being an answer to a quiz question. When Kluivert joined Bournemouth in 2023, he became the fourth footballer to play in all of Europe’s top five leagues, after Florin Raducioiu, Christian Poulsen and Stevan Jovetic.

Tipped for stardom ever since making his Netherlands bow as an 18-year-old with Ajax, he swiftly moved to Roma, but his subsequent tour around Europe was a sign that he was struggling to fulfil his early promise.
