Frankie ends a 35-year career of racing in Britain in royal style, joined by the Queen for the unveiling of a new statue, designed by artist and sculptor Tristram Lewis, depicting him on horseback. The sculpture sits on the Grandstand Lawn of Ascot, where Frankie has had 229 victories – including triumphing in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes in 2017, when he receives the trophy from the monarch herself (below left)
In his long and successful career, Frankie Dettori rode more than 50 horses to victory for Elizabeth II.
Consequently, it was only fitting that his retirement from UK racing was marked at Ascot Racecourse by the new Queen.
‘What a day! I have to pinch myself. I’m just shocked’
