A321XLR testing progress
AIRBUS’S A321XLR programme has entered its international flighttest phase, also known as ‘route proving,’ ahead of its expected entry into service in 2024. The testing of the new variant is building up to the EASA type certification expected next year.
Airbus said the main objective was to demonstrate the A321XLR’s system maturity, with a target of approximately 100 hours flying time over ten days. The aircraft flew specific sectors, comprising around 15 flights in total, which were “intentionally typical of what airlines might fly when the aircraft enters service.” They were chosen to represent a mix of operator profiles, climatic conditions, flight durations and airport turnaround times.
