There were two 1997, first-impression copies of JK Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in the June 21 sale held by Bonhams.
One was ex-library, the spine and top edge of the front cover both badly faded, and with a stamp to the title and a barcode inside the rear cover. Bought from Cheshire Libraries & Museums, presumably when it was deemed to have served its shelf time and was deaccessioned – and perhaps for a very modest sum – it sold well at £24,000.
