Only around five examples of this rare ‘Big Beat’ concert poster are thought to exist. It advertises a 1958 tour by Rock and Roll promoter Alan Freed, whose photo appears at the top above the 16 different 1950s top musical acts (all also pictured).
These include some of the most famous names in Rock and Roll: Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and the Crickets, Jerry Lee Lewis. Also listed are some of their best-known hit songs such as Peggy Sue, Great Balls of Fire and Sweet Little Sixteen.
The cardboard poster advertising three shows at the Orpheum Theatre in Madison, Wisconsin, on April 23, measures 17 x 22in (43 x 56cm) and has an estimate of $1000+ in Heritage Auctions’ August 8-9 Entertainment and Music Memorabilia sale in Dallas.
