Arran’s horticultural rural skills course has started and already students are rolling up their sleeves and preparing flower and vegetable beds ready for the coming season at the Community Land Initiative in Whiting Bay. Cold but dry weather has enabled students to learn soil management techniques, stretch their muscles digging and drink plenty of tea around the fire.
Argyll College students get their hands dirty in the flowerbeds.
The next three months will see topics covered such as propagation, pruning, pests and diseases, turf care and plant identification giving learners a firm foundation in practical gardening at the site, as well as at Brodick Castle grounds.
