DALILAH MUHAMMAD’S race plan had been to get ahead by the first barrier and stay there and that’s exactly what the American did to claim the first gold for her country in this event.
The race got under way just as rain started to fall, but the 26-year-old 2013 world silver medallist didn’t let the wet conditions trouble her as she dominated the final to continue USA’s success in women’s hurdles at these Games.
Muhammad’s time was 53.13 and she led four athletes to personal best performances, including Sara Slott Petersen with a Danish record 53.55 for silver and USA’s Ashley Spencer with 53.72 for bronze.
