Australian Railway History  |  August 2016
Part 2 of the '1934 royal tour of Australia by Geoff Lillico and Ray Pickard is the feature article in the August issue of Australian Railway History. Featuring excellent photos of the royal trains used during this tour, Part 2 covers the second round of the Duke of Gloucester's tour in Victoria, the Tasmanian segment featuring a royal train from Hobart to Burnie and the follow-up New South Wales segment.
The latter includes royal train journeys to Orange and return, Sydney to Lismore and return to Newcastle, then from there to Wallangarra on the border with Queensland. Here the royal party transferred to the narrow gauge royal train for the journey through the Darling Downs at Toowoomba to Brisbane, as well as a short trip to Nambour and return.
Neville Pollard's account of Greg Wilson's railway career as an electrician working as a mechanic on signalling infrastructure. It is told in Greg's style as a fine raconteur.
Richard Butcher rounds off the issue with his account of growing up in the railway town of Casino and his subsequent posting there as a fitter in the locomotive depot.
