Autism Parenting  |  Issue 188
February honors the birthdays of past presidents and special people in our lives. It’s the middle of the school year, when students are immersed in learning. There are also National Pizza and National Dark Chocolate Days. Whether celebrating or studying, dining or devouring, it’s always fun to share the experience with others. That means knowing how to interact and socialize. Our theme this month is “Learning Social Skills for Life,” and as someone awkward in social situations, I know how important this is. While many of us struggle with socializing, our children on the spectrum find this an even bigger challenge. Learning those skills to combat the uncertainty and anxiety in those moments is crucial. As you read the articles, I hope you find the information helpful for you and your child. Then, as you celebrate, study, or savor, the social aspects may be easier to enjoy. A little chocolate never hurts, either. Happy reading!
