The games that have kept us entertained this month

DOOM (2016)

It’s been over two decades since I visited the world of Doom. It was a game that totally redefined first person shooters and scared the living daylights out of me. I remember sitting in the PC room at boarding school in the middle of the night freaking myself out - it’s part of the reason I don’t watch horror movies. And when I installed a surround system a few years later and started playing Quake and Unreal Tournament, hearing the footsteps scuttling across the room behind me, it took me back to the fear I felt when playing Doom years before.
