To mark the 50th anniversary since the formation of London Country, Michael Baker gives us a personal look at the rise and fall of Chelsham bus garage. And sticking with London, we take you on a jaunt on FRM1 to some of its old haunts, and look at the day it caught fire...

Previously, we showed some Duple Dreams drawn by Stewart Bratt when he temporarily replaced Eric Ball at Duple. Now Eric has responded to show some of the wonderful designs he produced there. And talking of coaches, we have the story of King Alfred’s, the first of which set out 100 years ago.

Also featured are Bridgemasters that migrated to the north of Scotland, red Merlins in green areas and more coaches and buses on the quayside at Weymouth. And we visit some wonderfully atmospheric scenes in Sheffield, the Derbyshire peaks and in Liverpool’s Edge Lane works.

We solve mysteries, pose questions, puzzle about the nomenclature of Lions and see Wulfrunians towards the end of their working lives. Then, of course, there’s our usual lively and well-illustrated Forum section, with topics ranging far and wide, and an overview of new books of interest.

A beautifully designed and intelligent magazine, packed with well-written articles – all superbly illustrated – about different aspects of bus and coach operation, the vehicles we learned to love or hate, interesting companies, people that shaped the industry, plus personal reminiscences and factual stories. Some are shamelessly nostalgic, some controversial, but every piece is written by people who have a lifelong devotion and unquenchable passion for this interest. Many writers are well-known figures in the industry, bringing a fresh perspective that keeps the magazine relevant to today’s readers.
